Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss Hotel

As my boyfriend and I both work full time, we only have 4 weeks of annual leave. That makes the 4 weeks of holiday incredibly important to us. Thanks to airline miles, hotel points and elite status, we were able to create trips of a lifetime. This time around, we decided to go ski in Davos, and chasing aurora lights in Norway.
In December 2014, we took Qantas A380 first class from Melbourne to London, staying at Waldorf Hilton. Then spend 8 days in Davos skiing and snowboarding, staying at the Intercontinental Davos and Sheraton Davos. On our way from Davos to Trosmo, we spent the night at Zurich, staying at Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss. We then flew to Tromso to chase the aurora lights, huski and snowmobile. Before we returned to Melbourne on Qantas A380 First class, we spent one night at Park Tower Knightsbridge Penthouse Suite.

When it comes to hotels, my first choice is always SPG due to being SPG platinum. There are three Starwood hotels in Zurich, Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss, Sheraton Zurich and Four Points Zurich. Four Points is the first one out since I am not a fan of Four Points, so it comes down to the two Sheratons.
The Sheraton Zurich is newer and the rate is usually cheaper than Neues Schloss. However, location wise, Sheraton Neues Schloss is much closer to the old town where the shops and restaurants are. and train station. Since we are only here for one night and wanted to make most of it, we chose the Sheraton Neues Schloss.

We arrived at night and walked from the train station to the hotel. It took about 10 minutes. From the station, there are signs pointing towards the Park Hyatt Zurich... Follow that sign and you will get to Sheraton Neues Schloss. ;)

There are some stairs before you get to check in desk. There were three check in agents working at the front desk. Given this is a small hotel, we were checked in and given our keys and wifi password within 5 minutes. We were upgraded to Executive Room. The agent informed us breakfast (platinum welcome amenity) is on level 1 Le Jardin Suiss restaurant from 7:00am to 10:00am.

The hotel lobby, link @ Sheraton and the bar are all on level 1.

Our room is on level 1. We decided to take the stairs instead of the lift, to walk off all the Swiss Chocolate, Cheese and Rosti we have been eating.

The room looks nice and clean. It is probably one of the nicest Sheraton we stayed at. There are two beds that were put together for a King bed, although this is normal in Europe. The room has a Nespresso machine.  There was a welcome letter left by the GM to welcome us to the hotel.

We went down to Le Jardin Suiss for breakfast in the morning at 7:00am. We were the only two people at the restaurant. The restaurant is small, however, there are plenty of space between the tables. The choice for breakfast is extensive and delicious. Everything is neat and nicely presented.

Overall, this is a solid choice for hotel in Zurich. It is very close to the old town and train station. If we go back to Zurich, Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss would definitely be our first choice. There are quite a few reviews comparing this hotel to Park Hyatt Zurich. Well, of course Park Hyatt would be better in general, since one is marketed as upscale hotel, the other one is marketed as luxury hotel. The price of Park Hyatt certainly reflects that. Having said that, being a SPG platinum, with room upgrades and full buffet breakfast, I am happy to return back to Sheraton Zurich Neues Schloss.
